If you have a system or network connected to the Internet, you become a target. Your network is being scanned for vulnerabilities. This may happen only once a month or twice a day, regardless, there are people out there probing your network and systems for weaknesses. This documentation will show how you can protect yourself by installing an Intrusion Detection System with free available Software called Snort on a Linux (Mandrake) System.
This guide contains all the necessary information for installing and understanding the architectural layout of the implementation. It was written with the assumption that you understand how to run Snort and have a basic understanding of Linux Mandrake. This includes installing Linux Mandrake and RPM packages, editing files, making directories, compiling software and understanding general Unix commands. This guide doesn’t explain how to use or configure Snort, but information on where to obtain this information can be found in the “Additional information” section. Read more here |
