The distribution arrived as a three CD set: two installation discs and one companion disc with extra goodies on it. I decided to install the distro on an older Pentium III 700MHz system to get a good idea of how well it performed on aged equipment. I decided to try this since it runs on a 2.6.x kernel, and with my recent experience with Fedora Core 2, I found that it runs well on older hardware. Very impressive actually.
Right off the bat, I was given a choice between three languages which I could proceed with: English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Of course I chose English (though it would be amusing to see if I could accomplish the installation using one of the others... that would be proof of a good installer, now wouldn't it?) and continued on. The next screen offered up three new choices, this time regarding the type of installation I would like to perform.
Standard Install – This option will allow total customization over the entire install and its associated options. You can get granular with package selection as well as all networking/hardware/etc. options. Turbo Install – This option provides an installation that is virtually option free. Only the basic information is required to complete this type of install. Think of it as being very similar to the way Xandros and Linspire present their 'simple' installs. Upgrade – Well, as the name implies, this option will upgrade an existing TurboLinux workstation. I'm not entirely sure how well this feature works since we don't have any previous versions in-house.
