Linux-Tip News

We are proud to present Linux-Tip Europe. This page is designed to provide the Linux users community (not only in Europe) with news and articles that are of interest to them. It works by allowing members of the community to submit news and articles relating to Linux hardware and software. This same community can then decide what tips should be promoted based on what they consider to be the most important or interesting to the community by voting stories up and down. Stories that receive enough votes are promoted to the Linux-Tip Europe homepage. Bookmark and Share

Do you have problems with viruses and malware? Do you like to test different Linux distribution on your PC? Do you like to have tools and utilities available to check your PC, to partition your hard disk or to rescue data? This is perhaps the best tool you have ever seen and the best stuff for your USB Stick. Shardana Antivirus Rescue Disk Utility (Sardu) is software that can produce an ISO or an IMA anti-virus bootable CD, comprehensive collections of utilities, the most popular distributions of Linux Lite, and the best known Windows PE. In this article we’ll describe how to install more the 20 Live Systems on your USB Stick in 4 steps.

Step 1: Download and install the core program

The core program (freeware) can be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. It does not ship with any of the antivirus rescue disks or system tools though. It is up to the user to download them individually with the possibility to skip programs by simply not downloading them.
Unfortunately  the core program is just available as a Windows binary file. You need to install it on a Windows machine or to run a virtual machine on your Linux box.  Download the Sardu zip file here and unzip it in your favorite folder. (e.g. C:\sardu)

Step 2: Prepare the USB Stick

You need at least a USB Stick with 2 GB free space. Backup all data first. The following tool will prepare your USB device and will make it bootable.  Download the USB Disk Store tool  (hpusbfwv2.2.3.exe) here:

Disable all format options like in the picture below and start to format the device by clicking „Start“. The program will need some time to do the job. Click “OK” and “CLOSE” afterwards.  Your USB device is now prepared to store the ISO image.

Step 3: Download the needed ISO images

The program itself is divided into four tabs that list the various tools that are supported by the antivirus rescue disk.

Antivirus: AOSS PcTools, Avira Antivir Rescue System, Bitdefender,  Mini Dr. Web Live CD, F-Secure, GData, Kaspersky Kav Rescue CD, Panda Safe CD and VBA Rescue

Utility: Floppy win98SE, Clonezilla, Gparted, NT password, Ophcrack, Parted Magic, Partition Wizard, System Rescue CD, Ultimate Boot CD

Linux: Austrumi, Damn Small Linux, Linux Multimedia Player “Limp”, NimbleX, Puppy Linux, Slax

PE: LiveXP, Windows PE,  UBCD4Win, VistaPE, Win7PE

The Italian interface can be switched to several other languages. A click on any entry will open a website with download possibilities. Some websites are also shown in the Italian language but it is usually not a big problem to change those to another language like English to download the tool in the right language.  Please place the downloaded images and tools the right directory. (e.g. C:\sardu\ISO). If necessary unzip the downloaded files. The program will later recognize the ISO files during the creation of the bootable disk image.

Step 4: Creating bootable USB Stick and DVD

After downloading al l ISO images click on “Make bootable USB”. Sadu will store the created image to your USB device automatically.  If you like to burn a DVD just click on “Make ISO”. Sardu will create an ISO image and will store it in a separate directory (e.g. C:\sardu\ISO created\sardu.iso).  Just use your favorite Burning Tool to create your DVD.
