Page 2 of 3 Step 2: Post-Install process and configuration
In this step we have the possibility to configure all necessary settings like network, sound and video. Remark: I do not recommend skipping this step, but you can access this configuration later by using the vasm command as super user.

Use LILO as boot manager and install it to the MBR of the hard disk. This will work for the most systems.

Depending on your hardware use framebuffer or not. If you are not sure, leave the default settings and do not use optional parameters.

It is time to configure VectorLinux. In the next step we will have the time to setup keymap, time zone, network, sound and x-windows etc.

Let’s start with the time and time-zone settings:

Configure the mouse next. If you are not sure, leave the default settings.

Please configure the network hostname in this step.

You can use DHCP to configure the network settings. The following example shows the static TCP/IP configuration. Please use your IP address, subnet mask and DNS settings instead.

This will bring us to the audio settings if you have appropriate hardware installed. VectorLinux should normally auto detect your hardware and install the necessary driver.

This is the X Server configuration step.

I had some problems to detect the hardware correctly but finally used the following settings to solve the problem:

Finally the configuration will ask you to create the root password and to add a ordinary user. You should always work as a normal user, but change into super user modus if necessary.
Restart the system when you are done.
