First Look:SUSE 10.1 Release Candidate

This is one really, really cool and solid distribution. OK, before I go any further I should point out that SUSE 10.1 (code name: Agama Lizard) isn't actually released yet. I've been kicking the tires of the first SUSE 10.1 "Release Candidate."

Novell and its SUSE buddies comes right out and say, "This is an unsupported, open source only, preliminary edition of SUSE Linux that contains bleeding-edge packages and represents the latest development snapshot." In short, do not, we repeat do not, run this on a production system.

My laptop display resolution wasn't configured by default, so I had to edit the xorg.conf file and correctly specify the 1920x1200 resolution at all color depths. Plus, Slackware doesn't come with binary driver support for ATI or nVidia graphics cards but you can easily add them by downloading the latest version and following the install directions for whichever card you have. The Open Addict DELL XPS M170 test laptop comes with a nVidia card, so I grabbed the latest drivers from nvidia.com and installed from that point. No big deal there. [Open Addict]
