Howto install a content filtering and virus checking proxy (Part I) |
|
Wednesday, 11 April 2007 |
All Internet content carries a risk. Content Filtering helps companies and home users to stop unwanted data. It is used as part of Internet Firewalls or Proxy Servers to screen the content of all incoming Internet traffic. Content filtering usually works by specifying character strings that, if matched, indicate undesirable content that is to be screened out. Content is typically screened for pornographic content and sometimes also for violence- or hate-oriented content. To be effective you need a database or list of domains and URLs that should be blocked. Building and maintaining your own blacklist would require a huge investment in time. In the first part (Part I) of the workshop we will use a downloaded list which you can later update on the regular bases. Part II of the workshop will explain how to add a virus scan engine to the existing configuration using ClamAV.

Open source at CeBIT 2007 |
|
Friday, 23 March 2007 |
|
Traditionally, most companies that work with open source software
cluster at the Linux Park in Hall 5, and this year was no exception.
Nor was there any exception to another CeBIT tradition, namely the
release of a new version of Knoppix, which is now at version 5.2.
However, this time Klaus Knopper -- Mr. Knoppix himself -- wasn't
handing out free disks and answering visitors' questions. Instead,
German publisher Heise was selling copies of its C't magazine
containing the latest version of Knoppix.

Use the “CUBE” with XGL and Compiz on your Suse Laptop. |
|
Friday, 09 March 2007 |
|
Well, I got my laptop on Friday two weeks ago. I must say, the HP Compaq nx6310 was definitely a good choice. The only thing I don’t really like is the TrueLife screen. I don’t like it because of the glare, but I suppose I’ll get used to it. Anyway, one of the first things I did was partition the drive, and install OpenSuse 10.2, 64bit version. The installation went smoothly and everything (including WLAN) worked perfect. In this workshop I want to explain the installation of the 3D cube using XGL and Compiz. |
