Trick: g4u - Harddisk Image Cloning for PCs

G4u ("ghost for unix") is a NetBSD-based bootfloppy/CD-ROM that allows easy cloning of PC harddisks to deploy a common setup on a number of PCs using FTP. The floppy/CD offers two functions. First is to upload the compressed image of a local harddisk to a FTP server. Other is to restore that image via FTP, uncompress it and write it back to disk; network configuration is fetched via DHCP. As the hard disk is processed as a image, any file system and operating system can be deployed using g4u. Easy cloning of local disks as well as partitions is also supported.

When contracting for code development, get a formal agreement in place. Know where your developer is getting their code and make it clear whether the developer can use someone else's code. This way, there is a clear breach of contract if the code is not entirely the work of the developer.

Tip: Complete Linux PBX

Asterisk is a complete PBX in software. It runs on Linux and provides all of the features you would expect from a PBX and more. Asterisk does voice over IP in three protocols, and can interoperate with almost all standards-based telephony equipment using relatively inexpensive hardware. Asterisk provides Voicemail services with Directory, Call Conferencing, Interactive Voice Response, Call Queuing. It has support for three-way calling, caller ID services, ADSI, SIP and H.323 (as both client and gateway). Asterisk provides transparent bridging between Voice over IP protocols and traditional telephony equipment.  In addition, Asterisk can transfer calls from one system to another via the Inter-Asterisk eXchange (IAX™) protocol.
